Skin Radio was formed by Philadelphia entrepreneur, Tom Kelly, who began his radio broadcasting career in 1980.  Tom Kelly also owns Kelly Music Research, Inc., a leading market research provider to the Radio industry.

Format Description: Alternative

Music is the primary product on Skin Radio.  Skin Radio is a music intensive blend of Alternative, Indie, Modern Rock, Hip-hop, Reggae, Local Bands and more… all under one Skin.  The format will also feature news and information as well as non-music entertainment elements such as Poetry, Comedy and Movie Scenes.    The station does not utilize traditional DJ's.  Instead, Skin Radio’s hosts keep the talk to a minimum and complement, not upstage the music. 

“Local Stage” – Every hour, Skin Radio features a local band from the Philadelphia area.  These are bands currently playing in Philadelphia’s most popular music venues.

“Poetry Slam” – Every hour, Skin Radio features poetry segments.  Philadelphia area poets provide recorded samples of their work.  Many of these local poets participate in open mic nights at Philadelphia area coffee shops and night clubs.

“Laugh Tracks” – Comic relief is delivered regularly with short excerpts of lifestyle comedy from today’s best comedians.

“Scene Selection” – All day long, Skin Radio features thoughtful, snappy dialogue from popular movies, re-living familiar, memorable scenes from favorite movies. Selections are submitted by listeners.

Target Audience:  Young Adults

Skin Radio is programmed for post-college age, 20’s and 30’s young adults.  The typical listener is college educated, community and socially active, and gainfully employed.

Additional Distribution Technology – Internet streaming

Skin Radio is broadcast on an FM quality, stereo audio stream on the Internet at www.skinradio.com.  Internet streaming is rapidly becoming a preferred listening choice among young adults.
